Manifesting the Job You Want

After 3 months into my first full time job, I was unhappy.

“When I initially accepted the position, I was so caught up on having a job after graduation that I neglected my true desire of working with students one on one. ”
I wasn’t getting the student interaction I yearned. I wasn’t quite ready to leave just yet so I expressed my lack of fulfillment with my supervisor who encouraged me to find ways outside of my job duties to interact with students. Which did help a bit but by month six, I was out the door.
In my down time, I began to manifest what I wanted in my next job. The beauty of searching for a job when you have one is you can be extremely picky. I was in final stages of interviews for three positions and decided to write out my wish list of what I wanted in my next position.
My Wish List:
9-5 work hours - My current position is salaried and is a true 9-5 model
Laptop - My current position didn't provide me a laptop but I was able to purchase one with an increase in salary and no metro fees
Meet/mentor students at least 1-2x per week - During peek times, I meet with 20+ students a week
Lead/mentor/supervise professionals and develop a team - I am a part of the Professional Development team that hosts various workshops for a team of 24
No metro fees - I can now walk to work in 15 minutes
See outside the window - (I asked this question in my interview) This may seem like a crazy ask but to come from a working space where you don't know what type of weather is outside and can't see the sun, makes a difference. My current desk is in a basement, but it is next to a window!
A cooperative cohesive and supportive team - My team does it's best to remain cohesive and supportive and that's all I ask
I wrote out my list on February 1 and I began my new position on March 20. When you get clear about what you want, it makes the decision so much easier.
When you are searching for your next position, get clear with yourself about what is on your wish list? Put it in writing!
